Let's Get Creative! Summer Writing Camp | 2nd and 3rd Grade

In our 4 week long class, each week will be dedicated to one writing style. Learners will have the opportunity to explore their creativity as they work to strengthen their writing skills. We will be using fun summertime themes throughout our writing, to make our summer camp even more enjoyable! It is so important to view learning as a fun and exciting activity, and that is exactly what our goal will be through these 4 weeks! Looking forward to meeting your learner soon!
8 lessons//4 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1narrative writing: introduction and practice | theme: rainbow fishwe will begin learning about narrative writing, we will read the book "rainbow fish" as an example, and then we will complete activities relating to the story we read as we practice with narrative writing.Lesson 2narrative writing: writing practice | theme: ocean animal narrativewe will be writing narratives using ocean animals as characters.Week 2Lesson 3expository writing: introduction and practice | theme: a butterfly's lifewe will begin learning about expository writing, we will read the book "a butterfly's life" as an example, and then we will complete activities relating to the story we read as we practice with expository writing.Lesson 4expository writing: writing practice | theme: ocean animal researchwe will be practicing expository writing using ocean animal research.Week 3Lesson 5informative writing: introduction and practice | theme: at the beachwe will begin learning about informative writing, we will read the book "at the beach" as an example, and then we will complete activities relating to the story we read as we practice with informative writing.Lesson 6informative writing: writing practice | theme: how to build a sandcastlewe will be practicing informative writing by writing a piece on how to build a sandcastle, with emphasis on adding sensory detail.Week 4Lesson 7opinion writing: introduction and practice | theme: the perfect petwe will begin learning about opinion writing, we will read the book "the perfect pet" as an example, and then we will complete activities relating to the story we read as we practice with opinion writing.Lesson 8opinion writing: writing practice | theme: swimming in pools vs the oceanwe will be practicing opinion writing by writing a piece on wether you believe it is better to swim in the ocean or a pool.
Students will grow as writers in the four main writing styles, narrative, expository, informative and opinion. Students will focus on writing structure and adding details to writing, along with sensory details to improve student creativity and descriptive word usage. Our goal is to gain confidence and learn to love writing!

Students will be able to complete extra optional practice writing exercises at home, that supports and extends our curriculum in class.Grades Offered
Students will need to have a writing notebook (lined paper) and a pencil to write with. Some weeks may require worksheets that will need to be printed out prior to the start of class.
