Are you a young writer with a big story to tell? If you love sharing stories and creative ideas then this is the perfect place for you! In this fun and engaging class, you’ll have the chance to explore writing different short story genres, sharpen editing skills, and become a more confident writer. **Skills We’ll Build** - **Editing and Revising**: Learn how to improve and polish your work, turning good writing into great writing. - **Diction**: Understand how word choice can make your writing stronger and more vivid. - **Establishing Voice**: Develop your own writing style and find the perfect voice for your stories. - **Creating Tone and Mood**: Master how to make readers feel excited, happy, scared, or curious with just the right tone. - ** And more**! **Get ready to discover new ways to express yourself and become the writer you’ve always wanted to be!** In this class students will receive feedback and instruction from a dedicated and experienced English Language Arts teacher. Each week students will be given a creative writing prompt that they can extend into a short story. Lessons will begin with a social emotional check-in, afterwards students will be given a writing prompt and time to write. After writing we will edit and revise their work using the 5 Step Writing Process. I love teaching students the Writing Process because it is applicable to all types of writing. This process will be recursive meaning we will practice it each week. In this way, students will internalize the steps of the writing process which they can apply to writing tasks across the disciplines. As this is a private lesson, students can choose the projects they would like to extend, and we will workshop them until they are complete. This course is flexible and recurring so students are invited to enroll anytime. My role as an educator is facilitator, I encourage students to come to the class with a story idea in mind or just the desire to learn how to become better writers, and my job will be to help them achieve their writing goals. If your student is a hesitant writer I strongly recommend this course for them. This class is fun and engaging, with a supportive environment where I believe they will learn to love writing. We will also incorporate a 3 Step Reflection Process into our writing that will help scholars to plan for their writing goals. Then I will assist them with research tips, and the acquisition of any extra materials that may be necessary, in terms of texts to read and writing graphic organizers. As a seasoned educator of English Language Arts and English as an Additional Language, I have learned that to create lifelong writers, students need multiple opportunities to practice writing in a low pressure, low risk environment. Developing a habit of writing frequently, coupled with learning how to effectively use the writing process, significantly increases the chance of success when a scholar is put to the test in a high risk, high pressure environment. Therefore, it pays great dividends to develop writing skills when the stress factors are little to none. In this way, the student develops confidence and ease when it comes to writing that will help them to be successful in a variety of writing contexts over the course of their life.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
Master's Degree in English from Texas State University
As a certified veteran English teacher with 12 years of experience teaching students in grades K-12, I have had the opportunity to work with students of varying ages, and levels of ability to help them achieve their academic goals. Over that time, I have learned and implemented strategies that build students' confidence, significantly improve their writing abilities, and make the writing process fun. Indeed in many cases students begin to look forward to writing when they are able to do so in a supportive, relaxing and creative environment where they are able to take risk, grow and thrive!
