Students will demonstrate proficiency in crafting well-structured and visually appealing resumes that effectively highlight their skills and qualifications. Students will develop the ability to navigate and complete job applications accurately and comprehensively, showcasing their relevant experiences and achievements. Students will acquire a range of interview techniques and strategies, enabling them to confidently communicate their strengths and suitability for job roles. Students will refine their communication skills, including verbal and nonverbal cues, to effectively convey their professionalism and suitability during interviews. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the importance of tailoring resumes, job applications, and interview responses to specific job requirements and company cultures. Students will analyze and evaluate different interview scenarios, identifying effective and appropriate responses to various types of questions. Students will critically assess their own resumes, job applications, and interview performances, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies for enhancement. Students will develop a strong understanding of the fundamental components of successful job readiness, including professionalism, punctuality, and effective teamwork. Students will gain insight into industry-specific expectations and requirements, enabling them to tailor their job materials and interview strategies to specific career paths. Students will demonstrate increased confidence and self-assurance in presenting themselves as competent and qualified candidates during job application processes and interviews.
As an experienced teacher, I bring a wealth of expertise spanning various art forms such as mixed media, fiber arts, beadwork, and jewelry making, accumulated over 31 years. Additionally, my dual licensure as a K-12 teacher, coupled with over 16 years of working with students across different grades and abilities, equips me with a versatile skill set. I have extensive experience in teaching diverse subjects, including behavior and social skills, to create inclusive learning environments. As a published poet, I possess a genuine enthusiasm for teaching reading and writing, instilling a love for books and inspiring students along the way. I have taught high school Navigation and life skills classes that help prepare high schoolers to enter the workforce. I am also an executive board member for an international honor society for teachers and developed and headed a professional development committee that helps design training for in-service and pre-service teachers that are entering the field of education.
Homework Offered
Students are encouraged to collect and practice filling out actual job applications from a variety of businesses in their local area.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will not be assessed but will be offered feedback and suggestions within the classroom environment. Parents are welcome to request a meeting to discuss progress or skill strengths and weaknesses. Reports or grades based on engagement, participation and work completion can be provided to parents or partner schools upon request.Grades Offered
Students who plan to produce a digital portfolio will be encouraged to use Google or PowerPoint to create a Web-folio that can be shared with their future employers. Students who do not wish to use this feature are still welcome to learn without being required to visit those platforms. We will also visit several employer platforms and look at the application process within the classroom setting, students will not be required to visit outside sites on their own. Students will need access to word processing software to create their documents. Google docs is encouraged but not required.
