Over the course of five meetings, we'll delve into crucial topics like interview skills, resume writing, and job application techniques. Meeting 1: Introduction to Job Readiness In this session, students will explore the importance of job readiness skills. We'll discuss the significance of resumes, job applications, and interviews. Interactive discussions and engaging activities will set the foundation for the upcoming sessions. Meeting 2: Crafting Effective Resumes Learn the art of creating impactful resumes that catch the employer's attention. We'll cover formatting, content selection, and showcasing relevant skills. Students will receive personalized feedback on their drafts to optimize their resumes for success. Meeting 3: Mastering Job Applications Discover the secrets to completing job applications with precision. We'll navigate through common application sections, such as work history and qualifications. Students will learn strategies to highlight their strengths and tailor applications to specific roles. Meeting 4: Interview Techniques and Strategies Develop confidence in interviews by learning proven techniques and strategies. We'll explore different types of interviews, practice answering common questions, and discuss effective communication and body language. Mock interviews will provide valuable hands-on experience. Meeting 5: Putting It All Together In our final session, students will synthesize their learning. We'll review the key concepts and refine resumes, applications, and interview skills. Personalized guidance and tips will be provided to help students apply their newly acquired knowledge in real-world scenarios. Learners can expect an interactive and supportive learning environment throughout the class. Activities, discussions, and feedback will enhance their understanding and application of job readiness skills. Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Students who plan to produce a digital portfolio will be encouraged to use Google or PowerPoint to create a Web-folio that can be shared with their future employers. Students who do not wish to use this feature are still welcome to learn without being required to visit those platforms. We will also visit several employer platforms and look at the application process within the classroom setting, students will not be required to visit outside sites on their own. Students will need access to word processing software to create their documents. Google docs is encouraged but not required.

Additionally, my dual licensure as a K-12 teacher, coupled with over 16 years of working with students across different grades and abilities, equips me with a versatile skill set. I have extensive experience in teaching diverse subjects, including behavior and social skills, to create inclusive learning environments. As a published poet, I possess a genuine enthusiasm for teaching reading and writing, instilling a love for books and inspiring students along the way.
I have taught high school Navigation and life skills classes that help prepare high schoolers to enter the workforce. I am also an executive board member for an international honor society for teachers and developed and headed a professional development committee that helps design training for in-service and pre-service teachers that are entering the field of education.
