Applying to college doesn’t have to be stressful or overwhelming! As a first-generation college graduate, a neurodiverse educator, and an MSW student with experience working in higher education, I know the challenges students face in navigating the college process. This course breaks it all down into manageable steps while providing personalized support to help students feel confident and prepared.

The college application process can feel intense, but it doesn’t have to be.
With the right guidance, students can stay organized, plan ahead, and make informed decisions about their future. Drawing from my own journey as a first-generation student and my time working in higher ed, I’ll help students choose the right major, craft compelling essays, explore scholarship opportunities, and prepare for life on campus—all in a supportive, tailored environment.



COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides personalized, one-on-one mentoring to help students navigate their college journey:

- Designed to reduce stress by providing structure, organization, and actionable tips.
- Conversation-based mentoring tailored to each student’s needs and goals.
- Ideal for high school students, especially first-generation or neurodiverse learners.
- Offers accountability and encouragement to help students stay on track.
- Flexible schedule—meet as often as needed!




WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is perfect for students who:

- Are first-generation college students and need guidance from someone who’s been there.
- Are neurodiverse and need a tailored approach to the college process.
- Feel overwhelmed by applications, essays, and scholarship searches.
- Need support to stay organized and motivated.
- Are exploring options for four-year universities, community colleges, or trade schools.

Whether students are just starting to think about college or are in the thick of applications, this course adapts to meet them where they are.



WHAT IS THE COURSE STRUCTURE?
Each session is personalized to the student’s specific needs:

- Initial meeting: Understand the student’s goals, challenges, and priorities.
- Create a personalized action plan or focus on immediate priorities like essays or applications.
- Work through the plan step-by-step, providing ongoing guidance and support.
- Students can attend as many sessions as they need and stop whenever they feel ready.




TOPICS OFTEN COVERED INCLUDE:

- College application timelines and requirements.
- Exploring and selecting college majors.
- Financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
- Crafting and editing standout essays (with detailed verbal feedback).
- Preparing for campus life, housing, and navigating resources.
- Organizational and time management skills tailored for neurodiverse learners.
- Understanding the American college system (for international students).
- Building resumes and planning internships for college success.

Learning Goals

Students will develop a clear understanding of application timelines, requirements, and best practices for applying to their preferred colleges or programs.
Students will explore their interests, strengths, and career goals to make informed decisions about choosing a college and major that aligns with their aspirations.

As a neurodiverse educator and MSW student, I understand the unique challenges neurodiverse learners face. I tailor college prep to each student’s needs, offering personalized support with applications, essays, and fostering confidence.
Parental Guidance
My role in this course is to provide personalized mentoring and guidance to help your student navigate the college admissions process, which may involve discussions and activities that require your student to disclose personal information. Please be aware that I cannot make any guarantees of admission to any specific college or university, as those decisions are made by individual institutions. My goal is to empower your student to present their best possible application. I will not make decisions for students or parents, create a student's entire college list, or write any part of their application essays. My role is to facilitate self-discovery and guide students to make informed choices.
