Description

Class Experience

My "Level 4" class will focus on taking apart and putting together 2 and 3 syllable words that include prefixes and suffixes.
We will learn the rules for reading and spelling words with common endings:
-ple (as in “staple”) -fle (as in “raffle”)
-dle (as in “puddle”) -zle (as in “puzzle”)
-tle (as in “turtle”) -gle (as in “gargle”)

We will learn the rules for reading and spelling words with common suffixes:
-tion (as in “nation”) -ture (as in “nature”)
- sive (as in “cursive”) - tive (as in “native”)
- ful (as in “careful”) -ly (as in “quickly”)
**and many more**

We will learn the rules for reading and spelling words with common prefixes:
-pre (as in “pretest”) -re (as in “reread”)
-pro (as in “produce”) -dis (as in “discover”)
**and many more**

Students will learn the foundational skills of dividing and building multiple syllable words, while exercising their "symbol imagery" (visual memory.) This class will meet twice weekly for one hour each class. I will help your child build their confidence with multi- syllable words that contain various blends of letters.
As a special education teacher for 22 years, I have been using the Lindamood Bell techniques for decoding, comprehension, and math. This class will use the "Seeing Stars" program which focuses on decoding skills. The Lindamood Bell method combines auditory, visual, and language skills for a comprehensive approach for the struggling learner.
Each lesson will include a worksheet which will be uploaded for you to print. Follow up activities for you to do with your throughout the week will help your child practice the skills he/she learns in class. These activities will take less than 10 minutes each day.
Each class will include a worksheet that will be uploaded to the classroom. Use of a printer is required in order to print the worksheets.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Progress is assessed through teacher observation during class.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
