Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 6
Beginner Level
Edit: Summer classes are meant to prevent student slip and to get them ready for the next school year. As always, I meet your child where they are at and help them reach their goals!

This class is to help learners work on the building blocks to become confident readers. Both phonics and phonemic awareness will be taught to each student. Phonics and phonemic awareness are the building blocks to reading fluently.

Over the course students will use their knowledge of letters and English rules to build fluency and confidence in reading. I used modified Lindamood-Bell Strategies that I am trained in as well as my years of teaching experience. I will meet your child where they are academically and push them to makes gains in their reading. The course will end when the students have met their goals decided upon by the parent, the student and the teacher.

Students will be using various technologies, as well as manipulatives to aid them in learning. I will also use music and songs to help students remember concepts being taught. We will play games and practice writing words together. We will also read books together and use the new skills that the student is learning in that class. My classroom will always be engaging and fun.

I hold a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. I have worked with students of various levels. My responsibility is to provide literacy assistance to my students to become fluent and confident readers. I am a creative and enthusiastic teacher and happy to meet your child where she is in her journey to becoming a reader.

The teacher will meet the student where he or she is in their reading journey. It is preferred that the learner know all his letter sounds and is able to write his letters correctly. I will assess where your child is and use my knowledge as a reading coach to help your child be a successful reader. I am also hoping to impart the love of reading with each of my students.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Kate Aiton. I have a family of 5 including my husband and three children (13,11,8). I have been an educator for over 13 years. I have a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I have taught kindergarten, special education K-4 with a wide range of student abilities, a librarian for students K-5 and an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for students K-8. I believe learning should be fun and it all starts with Phonemic Awareness. This means reading starts with understanding sounds and what we hear. I also love reading for fun. My variety of classes will offer reading intervention, comprehension work and book study groups. I hope to inspire and continue to fuel your child's passion for reading.
