Writing Well-Developed Opinion Paragraphs Using the OREO Method

Welcome to this unique, one-of-a-kind class! We will master writing an opinion paragraph with step-by-step instructions while using graphic organizers to guide us through the writing process.

Class Structure:
✔️We'll read an article about a debatable topic, such as:
Should restaurants ban smartphones?
Should gaming be considered a sport?
Is texting ruining your writing?
Do celebrities make too much money?
Is it better to read from a book or from a device?
Should we get paid to recycle?

✔️We'll briefly discuss the topic, pulling details from the text to support our opinions.

✔️We'll complete a graphic organizer to plan our opinion paragraph.

✔️We'll each write a complete, well-developed paragraph supporting our stance on the topic, including a topic sentence, reasons and examples to support our stance, linking words, and a concluding sentence. **If time does not permit learners to finish their paragraph in class, they may complete it outside of class and submit it to the teacher for feedback.**

Feedback will be given to learners after completing their paragraphs if submitted to the teacher (during or after class.)

The article will be shared on the screen during class. No subscription to Scholastic News is necessary.
