Does your student struggle with: * Sound-to-letter correlation * Blending 2 sounds together * Decoding (sounding out simple words) * Spelling * Phonics (letter & sound combinations) * Sound sequencing (saying the correct sound in the correct order) The Lindamood Bell Seeing Stars program is an intensive program for students who are struggling with these reading skills. This includes students who have been diagnosed with specific learning disabilities or even dyslexia. My "Level 1" class will begin with VC (vowel - consonant) and CV (consonant - vowel) combinations. This skill based class is designed for the emergent reader who struggles with letter sounds and beginning blending (putting 2 sounds together). WEEK 1: Introduction to air writing (Symbol Imagery) and blending 2 sounds. Focus will be on all consonant sounds and "short" vowel sounds. WEEK 2: Focus will be on "long" vowel sounds such as "Silent-E rule" and vowel combinations. WEEK 3: Focus will be on Diphthong sounds (oy, ow, aw) and vowel+R sounds (ar, or, er, ir, ur) WEEK 4: Focus will be on reviewing all sounds and introducing CVC words in preparation of Level 2 class. **NOTE** - This sequence and plan is flexible and subject to change based on the needs of the individual learners in the class. * If your child is already reading many words confidently, my Level 2 or Level 3 class may be more appropriate. Each lesson will include a worksheet which will be uploaded for you to print. Follow up activities for you to do with your learner throughout the week will help your child practice the skills he/she learns in class. These activities will take less than 10 minutes each day. **USE OF AUDIO AND VIDEO IS REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS SO THAT I CAN OBSERVE THE LEARNERS PERFORMING THEIR AIR-WRITING ACTIVITIES.**
Learning Goals
Students will learn the foundational skills of blending simple two-letter combinations, while exercising their "symbol imagery" (visual memory.) This class will meet twice weekly for one hour each class. I will help your child set a firm foundation to be able to build up to cvc (consonant - vowel - consonant) words. For students who would like to continue to grow in their reading skills, follow up classes will be offered.
Students will learn:
* All consonant sounds
* All short vowel sounds
* Rules for long vowel sounds (ex: oa, ea, ai, ie, "silent-E" rule, etc)
* Rules for other vowel blends (ex: oy, oi, ow, au, aw, au)
* Blending 2 letter sounds (ex: if, in, as, on, at, etc)
THIS LEVEL TARGETS READERS WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE IDEA AND PROCESS OF BLENDING. IF YOUR READER IS ALREADY READING SINGLE SYLLABLE WORDS AND SENTENCES, PLEASE CONSIDER A HIGHER LEVEL CLASS.

Parental Guidance
Parent observation during the class is welcome, so parents can practice with their children throughout the week.
Supply List
No purchase necessary. One worksheet will be uploaded each week for use during the lesson. This will need to be printed in advance, but NOT completed prior to class.

As a special education teacher for 24 years, I have been using the Lindamood Bell techniques for decoding, comprehension, and math. This class will use the "Seeing Stars" program which focuses on decoding skills. The Lindamood Bell method combines auditory, visual, and language skills for a comprehensive approach for the struggling learner.
