US Grade 2 - 5
Does your student struggle with: * Decoding (sounding out words) * Spelling * Phonics (letter & sound combinations) * Blending (putting the sounds together) * Sound sequencing (saying the correct sound in the correct order) * "Getting the words off the page" The Lindamood Bell Seeing Stars program is an intensive program for students who are struggling with these reading skills. My "Level 2" class will focus on CVC (consonant- vowel - consonant) combinations. For example: tap, tape, boat, beach, march, foil This will include skills such as: - The "Silent E" Rule - Long vs. Short vowel sounds - Spelling for vowel combinations: ai, ea, oa, ay, etc. - Spelling for vowel combinations: oi, oy, ow, ou, aw, au - Spelling for combinations: ar, er, ir - Blending and fluency while reading Students will learn the foundational skills of blending these combinations of letters, while exercising their "symbol imagery" (visual memory.) This class will meet twice weekly for one hour each class. I will help your child set a firm foundation with single syllable words. For students who would like to continue to grow in their reading skills, follow up classes will be offered. Each lesson will include a worksheet which will be uploaded for you to print. Follow up activities for you to do with your throughout the week will help your child practice the skills he/she learns in class. These activities will take less than 10 minutes each day. **USE OF AUDIO AND VIDEO IS REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS**
Learning Goals
Students will practice automaticity of blending and spelling of single syllable words with various consonant and vowel patterns.
This class is most appropriate for beginning readers who understand the concept of "sounding out words" and have some beginning skills with phonics, but are struggling with the "rules" of long versus short vowel sounds.
