Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
Math is best learned through engaging, fun, visual, hands on and interactive activities! This is exactly what this class will be! Students will learn what is multiplication and how to multiply numbers 0-12 by learning about and using 5 different strategies. We will spend at least 4 classes on each strategy so students can really have time to learn it, practice and use their new knowledge through different activities.

I will teach the strategy at the beginning of every class. The majority of the class will be students using the learned strategy to solve problems in a fun hands on way or using the strategy to play a game.

I will teach using slides and/or a whiteboard. Students will join in on activities using M&M's(or something similar) Nearpod, art projects, interactive whole group games, songs and more. Students will be able to interact with their peers through conversations, working together and playing games. I love to have a different theme for every class so students can see different parts of the world as well as be introduced to using multiplication in real life situations through simple word problems. Places we have been include the zoo, space and the jungle.

This class is meant for students who are ready to learn how to multiply and have minimum exposure.

Strategies include:
Arrays
Equal groups
Repeated addition
Skip counting songs and tricks

Hello! My name is Natalie! I am a former Special Education Resource Teacher of 4 years. I have taught grades K-6 reading, writing and math small groups. I taught students with learning disabilities for 30 to 45 minutes a day, then they would go back to their homeroom class.

I love teaching students new strategies to solve problems. Everyone learns differently and everyone can absolutely learn and succeed. I love seeing my students finally understand math watch their confidence grow and have a blast learning! I love helping students learn to use the different tools in their tool box to solve a math problem. There are multiple ways a problem can be solved. I love teaching different strategies because one will work for students over the other.
Math can be viewed as hard, boring and daunting. It is my goal to make math fun, have students feel successful and tackle a math problem with confidence!
