You are stranded on an island! During a storm, your small fishing boat hit a rock and became shipwrecked on an island. You need help to survive and get off the island! You will need fresh water, food and materials to patch your boat and communicate with other boats. Your math skills will help you get off the island. You you don't have long until high tide comes in and your island is completely covered in water! Are you ready?! This activity is a digital breakout box. Think escape room, but all digital. Students are collaborating as a team to race against the clock to figure out the clues and puzzles to escapethe island they are shipwrecked on! Students will problem solve together on multi digit addition up to the thousands place value, subtraction and double digit multiplication problems, compare fractions with unlike denominators, divide whole numbers and have a lot of fun! Students will access the breakout box via a link I will send out through the chat box once class has started. I created this breakout box using google sites. Students will NOT need a Gmail account to access it. Students should have experience with multi digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Hello! My name is Natalie! I am a former Special Education Resource Teacher of 4 years. I have taught grades K-6 reading, writing and math small groups. I taught students with learning disabilities for 30 to 45 minutes a day, then they would go back to their homeroom class.
I love teaching students new strategies to solve problems. Everyone learns differently and everyone can absolutely learn and succeed. I love seeing my students finally understand math watch their confidence grow and have a blast learning! I love helping students learn to use the different tools in their tool box to solve a math problem. There are multiple ways a problem can be solved. I love teaching different strategies because one will work for students over the other.
