Step 5 in this exciting new series of courses teaching learners how to read and understand music while mastering playing the recorder.

Class experience

At the end of 4 weeks learners should be more proficient in their playing and reading of music. If they have practiced and completed the activities they should also be able to play a number of rhythms and songs.
I have been learning and playing music since I was a small girl. I play piano, flute, saxophone, guitar and of course the recorder. I have played in bands and have also worked in a recording studio where I frequently played on backing tracks for singers. I have taught in English secondary schools for many years covering a wide range of subjects but specialising in music.
I have several successful recorder classes here on Outschool and have been lucky enough to receive amazing reviews. This course is informed by the reviews I have received and my experiences in Outschool classes with learners. Just like your learners, as a teacher I am always learning, finding new and more innovative ways of doing things.
Worksheets will be provided to accompany each lessons learning goals, these will include all the music required for practice.

Learners must have soprano/descant recorder. It can be Baroque or German fingering but it is important learners know which they have and are able to say when asked. Knowing the difference is simple - count the holes from the top, if the the fourth hole is bigger than the fifth it is German, if the fourth hole is smaller it is Baroque. Personally, I prefer and play Baroque.

Recorders can be purchased relatively cheaply, I would recommend an Aulos or a Yamaha.
