Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
Are you ready to introduce your child to joy of playing the recorder? Are you interested in learning more about the Recorder Rookies curriculum before enrolling?

Introducing the Class Mini Introduction to Recorder Rookies – a 20 minute introduction designed as a sneak peek for the Recorder Rookies curriculum! In this single session, young musicians will get a taste of what to expect in the comprehensive 17 week Recorder Rookies course.

**Important Note: Each of the sections listed meets one week ahead of the scheduled start date for the full course. So, it's crucial to choose a section day/time that your child can commit to for a total of 18 weeks. After attending this class mini, if both you and your child feel that it's a good fit, I strongly encourage them to enroll in the same section/time for the complete Recorder Rookies course. This way, they can learn uninterrupted.

🍎 What Will Be Taught:
During the class mini, learners will play a jeopardy-style game they'll answer some questions about the musical concepts they'll explore in the full 17-week course. The jeopardy game is low pressure and stress-free; the game is about having fun and getting a snapshot of what lies ahead in the curriculum. And if your child brings a recorder along, they'll also learn their first three notes and a short melody. Learners will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the course during the class mini session.

🎶 Topics Covered:
In the jeopardy game, your child will be asked questions about musical fundamentals such as rhythm, meter, pitch, note-reading and other musical literacy elements. As mentioned above, there's no pressure to get the answers correct. It's more of a chance for learners to interact and sample the content covered in the full course.

🏫 Class Structure:
This class mini is designed to be a fun and interactive experience. We'll begin with a brief introduction to the Recorder Rookies curriculum, followed by the interactive jeopardy game. Bringing a recorder is optional but those who do will spend a bit of time exploring their first notes on the instrument.

👩🏼‍🏫 Teaching Style:
I'm usually known for having an energetic and creative teaching style. My goal is to make learning music a fun and empowering experience.

🙋🏽 Teacher-Student and Learner Interaction:
To ensure a personalized experience, the class mini is limited to a small group of learners - the same number of learners permitted to enroll in the full course. Keeping this intimate setting allows for plenty of interaction, questions, and sharing. Your child should feel comfortable and engaged throughout the session.

🧠 Prerequisites:
No prior musical experience or knowledge is required. It's the perfect starting point for beginners, and there's absolutely no pressure on your child to perform or meet any specific criteria. All they need is curiosity and willingness to explore music.

By enrolling in the Recorder Rookies Class-Mini, your child will get to meet me, learn a bit more about the class curriculum, experience my teaching style and make an informed decision about whether the full course is the right fit for them!
