Class Experience

Learning is a complex process that begins at birth and really never ends! Understanding how learning works and progresses from remembering simple facts and figures to fully understanding and creating is critical to long term success in life!

In this class, we explore the phases of learning according to Blooms Taxonomy, which is an hierarchical model used to classify educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity. simply put... the taxonomy describes HOW humans think and learn through simplistic to deep thought. The phases are usually presented in a pyramid rising from simplistic though to complex or deep thought.

  Create
 Evaluate
Analyzing
   Apply
Understand
Remember

This is an approach I have personally used to both teach and evaluate engineers throughout my own career quite successfully. Applying these principles to the learning process empowers the learner to go deeper and make connections to creativity not otherwise attainable.

In this class, a one hour session, we will explore each of the phases in the taxonomy and walk through examples from real life. Then we explore progressing from one phase to the next in practical terms. We will use live whiteboarding, and lecture combined with class discussion to bring the concepts to life. The terminology is kept at a normal level, no special terms or physiological concepts beyond the taxonomy and its application; This makes the concepts easy to grasp for non-technical non-philosophical learners. This is a "practical" class, more so than theory.

the expectation of the learner in this class is participation. Just as learning is not a one way absorption of facts, this class expects verbal feedback from everyone. If that is a problem for any reason, please do let me know before class.

Learning Goals

To understand the concepts of wisdom vs knowledge, remembering vs evaluating and creating vs judging. These life skills are life long useful tools to be used in all areas of life to reach a deeper level of success and satisfaction.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a retired computer engineer / entrepreneur I have spent my life creating and leading teams to create quite successfully. With several products in the market to my name, I have operated as mentor, teacher, leader to a variety of different team sizes and environments. This life long experience has taught me to appreciate and understand the taxonomy in a practical sense. I bring to this class the keys of how to understand and become creative in thought, problem solving, and learning.
