Enjoy the spooky season and keep the learning fun with these Halloween-themed games, activities, and crafts. This one-time Halloween-themed activity is open to any learner with a disability including autism and cognitive delays. Non-verbal or non-speaking students can use chat or communication devices throughout the session. Verbal participation is not required. Parents may assist their learners but must remain off-screen

Learners may wear their family-friendly costumes - nothing that is too scary (like a Scream Mask).

We will start our time together with a Halloween-themed welcome song.

Games will include Bingo, I Spy Alphabet Game, Halloween Move and Freeze activity, and a math game. Supplies will be available for printing prior to class.

Our craft is based on the dotted pumpkins of Yayoi Kusama. Learners will need at least two colors of construction paper (one light and one dark). We will draw the pumpkin on light paper. Learners may use markers, crayons, colored pencils, or even stickers to create the dots on the pumpkin. Then, as possible, the learner will cut the pumpkin out and glue it on the dark paper. A stencil will be available to print in the classroom.

We will end our time together talking about costumes, our favorite candies or other treats, and completing some independent games such as mazes, match up, and word finds. These will be provided in the classroom and onscreen.

Hello! I'm a friendly and experienced teacher who believes that everyone can learn. My passion lies in helping students discover their spark. I strive to create a challenging yet enjoyable learning environment in my classes. I offer live online classes, asynchronous self-paced courses, and individualized 1:1 tutoring.

My specialties include:

* Literacy and Reading
* Foundational Math Skills
* Cross-curriculum programming including science and social studies
* Expertise serving learners with disabilities, including autism, ADHD, learning or developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities, and reluctant learners, helping them gain confidence and develop a love for learning.

Adapted Curriculum:

I have the expertise to adapt and enhance curricula to cater to diverse learning needs in subjects including math, social studies, science, and life skills.

Understanding and Support:

As a mother of Twice-Exceptional students (ADHD, OCD, Autism, SPD, Dysgraphia), I understand the delicate balance of meeting individual needs while providing engaging content. My own experience with ADHD allows me to empathize with students who struggle with executive function issues and fluctuating energy levels.

Inclusive Environment:

I am committed to fostering an anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ inclusive environment. I actively seek decolonized resources and advocate for transgender issues.

Continuous Learning:

With two Master's Degrees (Social Work and Education) and ongoing professional development, I ensure my teaching methods are up-to-date and effective. I continuously engage in professional development through reputable platforms such as SimpleK12, LDA, PACER Center, and the Google Education Center. I am also proud to be a certified BrainPop Educator, NearPod Educator, and CK12 Educator.

Classroom Expectations:

In my classroom, kindness and readiness are the foundation. I welcome learners of all abilities and prioritize understanding and support for each student's unique communication and behavioral needs. I primarily base my classes on developmental or academic level rather than a specific age or grade. If you believe your older learner would benefit from a listed class, please enroll, and I will reach out to you for further information.

I strongly encourage learners of all abilities to participate to the fullest extent possible. I firmly believe that behavior is a form of communication, and I am dedicated to understanding what each student is trying to express.

Look forward to meeting you!

Susan Asplund
