Do you have a student who loves theater, cosplay, or film? Do you have a self taught special fx makeup artist who wants to show off their skills and meet other sfx artists? Do you have a student who is interested in learning more about theatrical or cosplay makeup but isn't sure where to start? Then join us for Special FX, Theater, and Cosplay Makeup Club! In this weekly Special FX, Theater, and Cosplay Makeup Club, students will get to design looks during class time, ask questions about how to use different products and techniques, share their skills with other students, and make new friends who share similar interests! In addition, each week I will demonstrate how to do a new makeup look, such as Old Age Makeup, how to make prosthetics using liquid latex, Character makeup, Gore Makeup, and so much more! They can choose to participate or just do their own makeup look and watch the demonstration in the recording later. Each week I will provide a detailed list of materials they can use should they decide to participate in the demonstration. This club is to bring other students who love makeup and creating unique designs and characters together to learn from each other, practice new ideas, and have fun making a very unique form of art!
Learning Goals
Students will learn a variety of special fx and theatrical makeup techniques and designs, from gore makeup to old age makeup to creature makeup and even how to make prosthetics! They will benefit from meeting new, like minded students and learning from each other as well.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
As we will be using liquid latex in this class, if your child has never used it before, please follow the guidelines on the bottle for patch testing it first to ensure it is safe for them to use. Some individuals have allergies to latex, so it is always best to be safe. If your child is allergic to latex, they can use Elmer's glue and flour whenever we are doing a makeup project that otherwise requires liquid latex.
Supply List
These are basic items students can use to create most looks I will be demonstrating. If they don't have everything on the first day they participate in the club, that is ok. Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a degree in Theater from the Univeristy of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama, and have been working in the arts for over 12 years as an actor, director, voice actor, singer, makeup artist, and professional cosplayer! You can see me in the horror film "Demon Squad" on Amazon Prime, which was recently featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000. I've worked in special fx and cosplay makeup and costuming for many years on films and in theater and have made it my job to know how to create the most realistic and unique looks for whatever project I'm involved in. Growing up, I was homeschooled, I was (and still am) very ADD and Dyslexic, and had trouble learning to read and other school subjects. I was also very sick for a while with an autoimmune disorder. With all these challenges, everyday was a struggle. But I didn't give up! And after many years of hard work and staying positive, I am doing everything I dreamed of doing and more! So my approach to learning is to encourage students to be their best self, accept challenges, and never give up. Everyone is going through something but if there's something you want to do or learn, go after it with everything you've got and you never know what you might accomplish!
