Class experience

Students will learn a variety of special fx and theatrical makeup techniques and designs, from gore makeup to old age makeup to creature makeup and even how to make prosthetics! They will benefit from meeting new, like minded students and learning from each other as well.
I have a degree in Theater from the Univeristy of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama, and have been working in the arts for over 12 years as an actor, director, voice actor, singer, makeup artist, and professional cosplayer! You can see me in the horror film "Demon Squad" on Amazon Prime, which was recently featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000. I've worked in special fx and cosplay makeup and costuming for many years on films and in theater and have made it my job to know how to create the most realistic and unique looks for whatever project I'm involved in. Growing up, I was homeschooled, I was (and still am) very ADD and Dyslexic, and had trouble learning to read and other school subjects. I was also very sick for a while with an autoimmune disorder. With all these challenges, everyday was a struggle. But I didn't give up! And after many years of hard work and staying positive, I am doing everything I dreamed of doing and more! So my approach to learning is to encourage students to be their best self, accept challenges, and never give up. Everyone is going through something but if there's something you want to do or learn, go after it with everything you've got and you never know what you might accomplish!
Homework Offered
Outside of class, practice any new techniques you learned in class or keep practicing your own designs and share what you worked on over the week in the following class.
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
These are basic items students can use to create most looks I will be demonstrating. If they don't have everything on the first day they participate in the club, that is ok. We will have lots of fun anyway! Any additional items will be provided in a weekly list and can be used should the student decide to participate in the Makeup Demonstration that week:

Mirror (can be a hand mirror or bathroom mirror or something that props or stands up)
Liquid Latex (16oz bottle available on Amazon for $11 or you can get a smaller size - they will need at least 4 oz) OR Elmers Glue and Flour
Empty cups or bowls and stirring tools
Paper Towels and makeup wipes/baby wipes on hand
Eyeshadow in a variety of colors
Facepaint or other colorful makeup (if you have it)
Eyeliner in Black
Makeup Brushes and sponges
Toilet paper, tissue paper, cotton, Q-Tips
Lipstick in red (or a halloween/theatrical makeup palette containing cream makeups)
Vaseline
Setting powder and a foundation or concealer
Corn Syrup, Pancake Syrup, or Honey, Red Food Coloring, and Cocoa Powder

Other materials for specific looks will be provided in the Classroom comments before each lesson and notes on alternative options or where to find what you need will be included as well.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
As we will be using liquid latex in this class, if your child has never used it before, please follow the guidelines on the bottle for patch testing it first to ensure it is safe for them to use. Some individuals have allergies to latex, so it is always best to be safe. If your child is allergic to latex, they can use Elmer's glue and flour whenever we are doing a makeup project that otherwise requires liquid latex.
