Class Experience

Welcome to personalized online tutoring, where each student's strengths and needs are at the center of the learning experience. My goal is to help students improve study habits, develop critical thinking strategies, and foster independence in both academic and social-emotional growth. Whether you're seeking support for grade-level academics or have specific learning challenges, I am here to provide tailored instruction.

INDIVIDUALIZED CONTENT
With a focus on science, history, and social studies, I offer a variety of coursework options that can be customized to your preferences. You have the freedom to choose your own adventure! If you prefer a small-group experience, I also offer academic group courses in these subjects. The academic level will be adjusted according to the needs of the students. Some students may require different response options, while others may benefit from additional review opportunities. For those interested, we can explore students' own interests and teach them how to research and navigate the internet safely.

This is an opportunity for sibling groups or homeschool pods that are at similar academic levels and wish to study together.

POTENTIAL TOPICS: Alongside the current academic courses, here are some other ideas to consider:

Geography: Developing map-reading skills, exploring places through Google Earth, studying landforms
Historical Figures: Researching or reviewing important people who represent different cultures, times, genders, and orientations
Science: Learning about seasons, weather patterns, the needs of plants, and the symbiotic relationships between plants and animals
Past and Present: Discovering the origins of modern marvels and the historical development of various concepts
IEPs AND 504s
I am experienced in meeting individual needs based on homeschool curriculum requirements or IEPs (Individualized Education Plans). With a wealth of resources at my disposal, I can create a solid approach that caters to each learner's unique circumstances.

HOMEWORK
Students are encouraged to bring their own homework from other academic courses, along with any questions or concerns they may have. If their homework falls outside the subjects I typically cover, I will assist them in finding answers through appropriate resources, such as Nearpod.

CLASS FORMAT
Each class will commence with a warm greeting and a review of past concepts, as applicable. Approximately 15-20 minutes of new instruction will be followed by 15-20 minutes of practical application, which may involve problem sets, fill-in-the-blank exercises, open-ended questions, interactive games, or even engaging sing-along videos. Students should have a dedicated notebook and pencil for every class.

LESSON PLANNING
Students have the option to sign up for a package of 4 sessions, which can be renewed throughout the year for the same time slot. Each class is scheduled for 45 minutes of instruction and may include additional homework or home practice, based on individual needs. For students who prefer shorter class times, a package of 6 sessions, each lasting 30 minutes, is available.

During classes, students are expected to keep their video and audio on throughout the session. It is recommended to find a quiet area in the house for the class. While parents may be nearby, they should remain offscreen as per Outschool policy.

PAYMENT OPTIONS
Two payment options are available to suit your preferences:

Weekly: You can choose to pay weekly, treating it as an ongoing class. Cancellations can be made anytime, with no refunds for past payments. Refunds for the most recent payment can be requested within 24 hours of purchase, before the first meeting of the payment period. Please note that missed classes are non-refundable. If two sessions are canceled, the time slot cannot be guaranteed.

Pay Upfront: With this option, you can pay upfront for a designated number of sessions. You will receive a full refund until the class begins or within 24 hours of purchase, then a pro-rated refund based on the number of meetings. The time slot is guaranteed for the duration of your session including time off for cancellations, vacation, or emergencies.

Pay upfront packages are available in groups of 4 sessions (once a week monthly), 8 sessions (can be twice a week monthly), or a whole semester of 12 or 24 sessions (once a week or twice a week).

I am also a preferred provider in Florida for the Gardiner Scholarship as well as a provider through ESA funds.
Learning Goals
Student goals will be identified from the first session and ongoing review.

Supply List
Students should have some type of notebook or folder to hold their materials. Ideally, students would have access to a pencil, color pencils or crayons, or even a whiteboard with marker. I can offer suggestions for type of composition notebook based on a handwriting assessment or manipulatives to be used for math.
