Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
"Exploring the Genetic Code" is a dynamic unit study designed to introduce middle school students to the fascinating world of genetics. Over the course of seven weeks, students will delve into the fundamental concepts of DNA, genes, dominant and recessive traits, Punnett squares, mutations, selective breeding, and genetic engineering. The program combines interactive discussions with engaging hands-on projects, fostering a deeper understanding of genetic principles through exploration and collaboration.

Join us twice a week for classes filled with engaging discussions, experiments, and fun hands-on projects. From building a model of a double helix to creating your own genetic family to designing your own futuristic organism using genetic engineering concepts, each project is designed to bring genetic concepts to life in a fun and tangible way. These classes are your ticket to unraveling the genetic code with the guidance of our knowledgeable teachers.

Week 1: Unraveling DNA
Understand the structure and function of DNA
Week 2: The Gene Code
Dive into the world of genes and chromosomes
Week 3: Dominant and Recessive Traits
        Explore dominant and recessive traits
Week 4: Punnett Squares
Learn about and engage in Punnett square simulations
Week 5: Evolution of Traits
Explore mutations, discover the role they play in evolution, and discuss genetic disorders
Week 6: Selective Breeding
        Investigate selective breeding
Week 7: Genetic Engineering
        Discuss genetic engineering

By combining interactive discussions, hands-on projects, and virtual resources, "Exploring the Genetic Code" provides a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for middle school students, igniting their curiosity about the intricate world of genetics.
