Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Based on the Bernabei method, (Grammar Keepers: Lessons That Tackle Students' Most Persistent Problems Once and for All), this course (and the others offered in the extensive series - listed below) will provide a systematic means of learning, understanding, and correctly using the various components of grammar. Through discussion, example journal entries, students' personal journal entries (prompted prior to class), and charting (Keepers 101 Chart), students will gain confidence in their grammar usage and will build a reference piece that will be useful after the class has concluded.

Students should already have a basic understanding of grammar and the ability to journal based upon prompts provided by the teacher.

Three journaling prompts will be provided prior to the beginning of the course. These journal entries will be fun topics and will offer us a built-in tool for use in our discussions and practice. This in-class use will also serve as a gauge of student understanding of the class material.

All of the one-time classes to be offered in this Grammar Keepers (Common Errors) series (and in a multi-class series during the fall) are listed below. While it's always good to complete a series in order, it's perfectly acceptable in this case to choose the exact ones your learner needs.

*  Homophones (Common Errors/A) (they're/there/their) (too/two/to)
*  Homophones (Common Errors/B) (it's/its) (you're/your) (who's/whose)
*  Which Word Do I Use? (Common Errors/C) (who/whom) (we're/were, where)
*  Which Word Do I Use? (Common Errors/D) (our/are) (then/than) (a lot)
*  Which Word Do I Use? (Common Errors/E) (already/all ready) (less/fewer)
*  Which Word Do I Use? (Common Errors/F) (lie/lay) (should've) (used to)
*  Which Word Do I Use? (Common Errors/G) (me/I) (accept/except)
*  Which Word Do I Use? (Common Errors/H) (loose/lose) (affect/effect) (all right)
*  Subject/Verb Agreement (Common Errors/I)
* & More!

Remember, we are all expanding our knowledge together (including the teacher).
I'm looking forward to learning with you!

The lack of grammar understanding is one of the biggest reasons that so many learners don't enjoy writing. I want to help your young writer remove the difficulties that can so easily steal the joy of writing, find his or her confidence as an author, and get those brilliant thoughts and words on paper!

I absolutely love to write and share the joy of writing, and I've taught writing and prepared students for state writing exams for several years. I understand that writing isn't everyone's cup of tea, so I am beyond happy to share some ways to bring your words to the surface. Oftentimes, it's just a matter of sorting out what's happening in your brain and getting it to come out in the right order. I'm here for you!
