Writing and Enjoying Haiku Poetry
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Let's see how much fun we can have with 17 syllables! Maybe you're already an old-hand at writing Haiku, and maybe it's your first time. Either way, you'll enjoy this session! We're going to learn about the different types of Haiku (traditional and non-traditional). We'll share some written by various authors, as well as my own. We'll see the beauty of nature and laugh with some that are riddles. You'll get to write some using picture prompts and other creative (maybe even silly)...
I'm a poetry nut! I love to read poems, and I love to write them. In my experience, I've found that Haiku is one of the easiest and most enjoyable form to teach kids whether they consider themselves to be writers or not. It's just plain fun! I absolutely love to write and share the joy of writing, and I've taught writing for several years. I understand that writing isn't everyone's cup of tea, so I am beyond happy to share some ways to bring your words to the surface. Oftentimes, it's just a matter of sorting out what's happening in your brain and getting it to come out in the right order. I'm here for you!
I'll provide the prompting for writing during the session. * lined-paper * pencils/erasers
