Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 3
How many of us, even as adults, immediately feel stress when we see fractions? A lot of students never build a strong foundation in early fraction skills, which gives them trouble as they learn more advanced skills. A solid understanding of fractions will help students work easily with decimals and percent in the future and provide them the skills to work with money, compare price and quantity, adjust recipes, and so much more. This Focus on Fraction series will focus on key foundational concepts with fractions to help learners develop confidence and skill in working with fractions.

In this early skills class, learners will be introduced to the concept of fractions from a beginner's level. They will learn the parts of a fraction and develop an understanding of what is a fraction. They will practice recognizing fractions and comparing fractions and, if time allows, practice recognizing equivalent fractions.

This class will be ideal for 3rd-4th graders. I use Google Slides to teach the material with hands-on activities and discussion followed by game-based review and practice.
