US Grade 3 - 4
How many of us, even as adults, immediately feel stress when we see fractions? A lot of students never build a strong foundation in early fraction skills, which gives them trouble as they learn more advanced skills. A solid understanding of fractions will help students work easily with decimals and percent in the future and provide them the skills to work with money, compare price and quantity, adjust recipes, and so much more. This Focus on Fraction series will focus on key foundational concepts with fractions to help learners develop confidence and skill in working with fractions. In this class, learners will focus on the early fraction skills of finding equivalent fractions and reducing fractions. Understanding these concepts will provide students the basis for more advanced fraction skills, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions as well as working with mixed numbers and improper fractions. Learners in this class should have an understanding of what a fraction is and recognizing fractions. This class will be ideal for 3rd-4th graders. I use Google Slides to teach the material with hands-on activities and discussion followed by game-based review and practice.
