Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
During this class, students will learn the basic functions of Microsoft Excel and get hands-on practice. This class will not only teach the basics of Excel, but it will excite students to discover ways they can use Excel in their everyday lives.

This is a "Self-Paced" class, so there are no live sessions. Students will have access to four pre-recorded lessons that I created exclusively for Outschool. During the recording, I share my screen so students can watch me using Excel as I describe its functions. Learners are encouraged to use Excel as they watch the recording, so that they can follow along and gain hands-on practice.

After the learner has completed a recording and created the Excel file described, they can submit it to me for review. Next, there will be a recommended activity to add to the file in order to reinforce the skills the learner learned during the most recent recording.

For a detailed lesson plan, please see the "Syllabus" section.

Topics covered will include:
•	Vocabulary (cell, column, row, worksheet, formula, budget, sum)
•	Organizing data
•	Gridlines
•	Formatting cells (color, font, currency, time)
•	SUM, COUNT, and AVERAGE functions
•	Multiplication, Subtraction, Division, Addition formulas
•	Sorting and filtering cells
•	Pie, bar, and line graphs

Students do not need any experience with Excel, but should have basic desktop or laptop knowledge, such as the ability to use a mouse, use a keyboard and open a program.
Learning Goals
At the end of the class, students will be able to name parts of an Excel worksheet, input information into cells, format cells, use the sum function, input a multiplication formula, sort, filter, and create graphs.
