2-4 hours per week. Each week there is about 30 problems of homework that covers the content in the course. There are edpuzzle quizzes that are not graded but are more of a self-assessment as to whether the student is ready to do the homework.Mastery Evaluation
There is ONE assessment at the end of the course. Students must show proficiency if they need a certificate of completion. Proficiency is 60%. Students practice the content in mods 1-8 in Week 9 of the course (no homework)Certificate of Completion
Students must pass the test with a 60% in order to moe to the next section (2 attempts will be given). Feedback will be given with the mistakes of the first attempt.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 11
Intermediate Level
Mods 1-8 are mostly a review of algebra with a few new concepts: the Desmond integration, absolute value functions, matrices, etc. Each mod has 3 edpuzzle videos (with Edpuzzle quizzes that students can use their notes for) along with about 30 questions of homework assignment problems (mostly focused on the mod lessons but will include some prior mod questions as well). For this reason, students should take their notes seriously and keep a binder. There is a binder given for this course. Students can take notes using the binder of notes. The intention is that students get used to using their notes to help them better understand course content. Because some problems from the assignments may be based on prior mods, students can then use their binder to go back and look for the material that the question pertains to in their binder. If students would like one on one help, they can sign up for my one-on-one tutoring course. This is offered on an as-needed basis. These sessions are 45 minutes of one on one help. Because we use edpuzzle and google drive there are parental notices that you should be aware of: Google provides information about the information it collects, as well as how it uses and discloses the information it collects from Google Workspace for Education accounts in its Google Workspace for Education Privacy Notice. You can read that notice online at https://workspace.google.com/terms/education_privacy.html You should review this information in its entirety. I will make myself available for this course for 10 weeks for those students who are looking for a letter grade and certificate of completion. I check the classroom notifications and will respond within 1-2 days. Module 9 is a review and assessment for this entire quarter's content.
Learning Goals
Students will be introduced to the desmos graphing tool. We use this tool to develop a better understanding of concepts through investigations prior to learning new content.
In the quarter 1 course, students will review the content from Algebra 1 that will be necessary to be successful in this course.
There are a few new concepts in addition to the Algebra 1 skills: Graphing Absolute Value Functions and Matrices
