Intermediate Level
Ray Bradbury stories are perfect for advanced students because they spark interest, are unique, and have that scientific element to them! In this one-time course, students will read the short story "All Summer in a Day", and participate in activities specifically designed for gifted learners. We will begin by exploring the idea of individuality vs. conformity by watching a short movie clip and using it as a launchpad for extension questions. Then we will engage in a vocabulary activity to activate prior knowledge of important words from "All Summer", as well as learn any unknown words. After reading the story, we will discuss using high level questions, explore the theme, character identities, and figurative language from the story. We will review what we learned during the class by concluding with a fun game of Blooket! Students won't want to miss the chance to dive deep into this unique story!
Learning Goals
Students will analyze the text to make inferences, evaluate social themes, and analyze characters.
