Taking a reading comprehension test is not as daunting when students are armed with a variety of skills to help them! In this 3-day course, students will learn tips and tricks to take reading comprehension tests successfully. This course is designed to help students take class assessments, as well as state reading assessments. Each class session will focus on a different type of reading test passage: fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. At the beginning of each class, I will introduce the genre of the day, and give tips for taking the specific type of genre passage. Then we will read through the passage together, stopping and discussing notable aspects along the way. After reading the passage and doing a quick summarizing strategy, we will analyze questions and answer together, using strategies to answer them. Examples of skills covered in questions include: context clues, figurative language, central idea, inferring, and summarizing. At the end of the last class (Poetry reading passages), we will play a fun Blooket or Gimkit game to review! After each class, I will send a tips and tricks summary sheet, along with bonus passage to practice after class. Class session focuses are as follows: Session 1: Fiction reading passages Session 2: Nonfiction reading passages Session 3: Poetry reading passages
