Advanced Level
Extend student's learning with this Reading Camp while having fun! Learners will explore the idea of archetypes through encounters with characters, our world, and experiences by using fictional texts, informational texts, and short films. This camp has activities specifically designed for advanced learners by using class discussions, Socratic Seminar, and higher level thinking graphic organizers. The concepts of theme, mood, symbols, tone and point of view will be covered during the camp. At the end of each day we will end the class with a fun game of Blooket to review what we learned! (Time permitted) The following texts will be used during the camp (texts will be provided): Day 1: "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros Day 2: "Lon Po Po: A Red Riding Hood Story from China" by Ed Young Days 3: Biographies of Jackie Robinson and Lin-Manuel Miranda Day 4: "The Emperor's New Clothes" by Hans Christian Andersen
Learning Goals
Students will analyze texts to make inferences, analyze characters, settings, and social encounters.
