What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hoursHomework
No additional work outside of class is required, but learners are encouraged to use their new skills in their own work.Assessment
Throughout the class, learners will be encouraged to share their work to assess their progress and understanding. We will engage in respectful and relaxed conversation and they are always encouraged to ask questions as needed.Class Experience
Welcome to my hand lettering class, 2.0! We will start with a brief talk about the art of hand lettering and look at some different typefaces including the ones from my other lettering class. Then learners will be able to practice the alphabet step-by-step with demonstrations of a selection of letters for each new style. A pre-drawn full set of letters will be shown as well. Hand lettering can turn an important project into a work of art. It often incorporates several art elements like line, shape, and even space, as well as the principles of design like balance, pattern, and rhythm. Everyone is welcome to respectfully share new ideas! Sometimes learners find certain styles harder to recreate than others, so we will start simple, and as time allows, try something more challenging. What you will need for this class: Several sheets of plain white paper Pencil Block eraser Black Fine Tip Sharpie marker (other black markers are okay as well) Black Ultra Fine Tip Sharpie marker (other black markers are okay as well but one should have a very fine point tip) Mat or scrap paper to work on * Learners do not need to take the first hand lettering class in order to take this one. We aim to learn 3 different styles in each class as time allows. ** Also, please remember that all students learn at their own pace, so some may not complete their work during class. I will assess where everyone is several times to gauge the pace and adjust as time allows. I will provide many opportunities to view the letters and ask questions as they arise. Thank you! *** Lastly and very important, if your learner is not within the age range listed, please reach out to me prior to enrolling in this class to ensure the class level is appropriate and that any expectations (from both myself and parents) can be met! Thank you for understanding!
Learning Goals
My goal is that learners will have a better understanding of how to form handmade letters in a few different styles, be inspired to seek out more alternatives, and even come up with their own style!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from UCLA
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and spent my first 10 years out of college working with professional designers and photographers in the publishing world. During that time, I designed and approved layouts to go to print. I learned how typefaces and various hand-lettering techniques can take an entire spread to a higher level and catch a reader's attention. I have also enjoyed journaling and used special hand-lettering techniques in my own work for many years. I am excited to share this with others!
