US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Does your learner love writing stories and is hungry for more inspiration? Or equally does your learner struggle with ideas for creative writing and needs a 'key' to release their full imaginative potential? In this class the Story Fairy (in full character and costume) will help inspire your young creative writer by 'stepping' into lots of different places on Story Island (via fun green screen backgrounds), and asking learners what she should do next. Learners will take it in turns to suggest their own imaginative ideas, which the Story Fairy will act out whilst they write the next part of their own creative story. They will also be given randomly chosen common exception words (often known as tricky words as they don't follow existing English grammar rules, and therefore need to be learned as exceptions), which they need to try and include in their story. Who or what will the Story Fairy meet in the Coral Cave? What will she do on the Pirate's ship? How will she get to the other side of the island? What lives in the tower? The only limit to these questions is learners' imaginations! Throughout the class, the Story Fairy will encourage and help young writers with ideas for their sentences when they get a bit stuck, and give them any spellings and support they need. Each learner will get their chance to decide what happens to the Story Fairy across many settings and write their own story using ideas from the class. At the end of the class, learners can share their stories if they would like to, for feedback and reactions from the Story Fairy, and the rest of the class, or if they prefer to have some more time to work on it, they can share it afterward in the classroom. Depending on their level of ability, learners will look at creating around a 3 to 12 sentence story (or maybe up to 24 lines for higher ability learners), but all learners will have the opportunity to give ideas to the Story Fairy to develop a story, and all will get to increase their vocabulary with lots of common exception words. This class also offers a chance to build their imagination, communication, confidence, and turn-taking skills too. Learners are very welcome to take this class many, many times to create lots of Story Fairy stories, perhaps a whole book of stories, or they can look out for the other 'Creative writing with the Story Fairy' classes. ****Please note that learners will need either paper and pen or be able to open a writing document on their device (whilst still being able to view the class) in order to fully access this class. I love teaching on Outschool and fully prepare to be ready to teach every class I offer. So classes will go ahead whether they are full, half full, quarter full, or have just one learner (who gets the benefit of a one-on-one lesson for a fraction of the cost)!****
Learning Goals
This class offers learners a chance to develop their creative writing skills by writing a story live during the class and trying to use some common exception words. This is also a chance for learners to build their imagination, communication, confidence, and turn-taking skills too.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Non-US Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Southampton
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama, English, Music, PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, and Citizenship education), and Performing Arts in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time. I also run small group confidence-building workshops and 1:1 tutoring sessions. I have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like 'create a play in a week') and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16 as well.
As a professional actress, I've performed for children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties, nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.
I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.
I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.
I am a Mummy to two young kids myself too, in fact, that is how the 'Story Fairy' was born!
