In this 7-week class, students will explore the craft of creative writing. Topics covered will include the key elements of plot, research, the three-act structure, character creation and development, conflict, poetry, and dialogue. The instructor teaches with a variety of tools such as multimedia. Students will be able to respond to weekly writing prompts and will be able to share their work with their classmates if they feel comfortable. Young writers will be able to create original work and share with the teacher or other classmates for constructive commentary and discussion. Class discussions will be vibrant and engaging, and will offer a safe, respectful, and professional place for students to share their writing, read and critique work, and grow in their craft. Classes will be taught using a combination of lecture and discussion. Many useful printables that include reference sheets and planning pages are included in the cost of the class. Both new and experienced writers are welcome. By the end of this course, learners should expect to see growth in their writing, reading, and editing skills, and possess a deeper understanding of the craft of creative writing. The instructor will provide personalized feedback to each learner and to the learner's parents on a biweekly basis.
