Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
This is a creative writing course geared toward learners who love to write and want to improve their craft! We will be talking about interesting ways to engage their audience's attention, and to keep them engaged. This class will specifically be going over how to use the five senses to create imagery in a story. This is a quick and easy technique that all creative writers should have. It will make their audience want to keep reading their work, which is the key to making a great story! The class will be structured and taught through an "I do, you do, we do" model. I will show the learners an example, I will have them try it on their own and share out, and then I will help the students along in doing it together as a large group. Students will get to interact with me the entire time after the beginning of the class where I show my initial example. We will then have some work time set aside for them to practice, and I will be there to answer any questions. Then we will all be participating in large group discussion together about how to perfect this technique as a group. The only experience learners should have is knowledge and practice of writing paragraphs at a time. Ideally, they are strongly recommended to bring in a sample of their creative writing that they want to revise using this technique.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to enhance their creative writing skills to make their writing sound more interesting and engage their audience.
Students will also learn how to hold their audience's attention using the five senses in descriptive scenes with imagery.

I am so excited for the opportunity to become your Outschool teacher! My name is Jaclyn and I have been working with students of all ages for the past 8+ years! I also hold a Master of Arts degree in Teaching with a K-6 licensure. I am passionate about teaching my students where they are at, and bringing them to where they want to be. Learning is supposed to be fun, and it is not a race. We all learn at our own paces and have our own strengths. That is why my teaching method starts by teaching to the individual. My classes act as a supportive community to build on skills and explore interests with students who share the similar passions! I look forward to the opportunity of meeting with you and developing a positive atmosphere that is conducive to our learning! I teach a wide variety of classes for all age groups! Because there is such a wide variety, I separated them into categories:

- Core Academic Subjects: Reading/Writing/Spelling
- Arts & Crafts
- STEAM
- Extra Curricular
- Assessments
- Tutoring (all ages)

Although I am passionate about, and love all of my classes, the Extra Curricular category is my personal favorite! It includes fun courses that can introduce students to interests they may never even realized they had!
