In this 6 week class, you will learn a few super writing techniques and build up some skills to help create a spooky, creepy, or even ghostly story, perfect for those dark, cold nights of Autumn. Each week we will start with a warm up to get those creative juices flowing, and then we will continue with the focus for that week. To begin with we will come up with our idea and start building it up. We will think about scary characters, spooky scenes, and even look at the sorts of words we can use to spook our readers out! You can share your writing in the classroom and get feedback from your fellow writers, and of course from me! Here's what to expect each week: Week 1: The Spooky Start - developing your title and main idea, and figuring out your setting Week 2: It's Cold Outside - how to use the weather to set the atmosphere Week 3: What was that? - Creating spooky sounds with your words Week 4: T-t-t-tension - How to make your reader feel on edge! Week 5: Ghost Stories - Thinking about the life of your characters Week 6: What are you talking about? - Using dialogue within your haunting tale By the end of the course you'll be well on your way to creating a tale to send shivers down your spine!

Parental Guidance
While the stories we will create are intended on having a spooky theme, we will not be reading any horror, and all 'scary' elements will be delivered in an age appropriate way.

I'm a qualified teacher, experienced in teaching English, History, Music, and Art. I home educated my two children, who are now at university, and I have taught in mainstream schools, and in Special-Ed schools.
I have also taught piano, guitar, singing, and music theory, taking students through grade examinations.
I am experienced in teaching the British GCSEs, and through home-schooling, I taught my own children using American curriculum. I teach Language Arts, English Literature and Language, Creative Writing, Poetry - both writing, and reading, and many other fantastic and interesting topics.
I teach writing skills using the Writing Revolution techniques, and have seen students improve their writing skills rapidly using some of the techniques applied.
In addition, I worked as a graphic designer for 10 years, working from home, and offer graphic design and video editing classes, using Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, and soon, Affinity creative suite.
Growth Mindset is very important in my classes, and I encourage it in all learners - Growth Mindset is the belief that even if you can't do something or don't understand something, then you CAN learn how to do it or understand it. Growth Mindset says "I can't do it YET, but I can learn." Learning happens through making mistakes, and then modifying your approach, changing what you do, to improve.
