This is a fun and engaging creating writing 101 class in which students develop strong creative writing skills and come to love writing! Whether your child struggles to write, or is a budding author, this class is perfect for you! In addition to writing every class, students will also receive very thorough feedback from me for each piece of writing. Your child will come away with a complete short story or 2, polished pieces of poetry and various short pieces of advanced descriptive writing. We will learn tools and strategies to become better at creative writing. Student's will read and study examples of powerful creative writing and be exposed to a wide variety of creative writing techniques. We will write every class, building excellent writing stamina that will serve your child well in other classes, and beyond. A child’s imagination is a beautiful thing - this class will help nurture it! Student’s get to choose what they will write on and unleash their inner creativity while writing on topics of interest! This is a very small group, interactive class where each student will receive lots of 1-on-1 time with, feedback and personalized coaching from the teacher. Class 1: I am Poems. Introduction to similes and metaphors. Reading and writing I am poems. Review of new words learnt from the poem Class 2: Expanding our descriptive writing toolset: alliterations, and personification. Student's write personification and metaphor poems. Class 3 and 4: Short story writing. The elements of a short story and how to tell a captivating story. Student's read two incredibly powerful short- stories and write their own short story! Class 5: Tips and strategies for writing effective dialogue. Dialogue rules and practice exercise! Students continue to work on their short stories, with 1-on-1 feedback and personalised guidance. Class 6: Writing on social issues. How to write a creative piece with a mission. We refine and polish our short story and creative mission piece. We wrap up with writers spotlight exercise that teaches students to present and take pride in their work

I am an award-winning teacher with an undergraduate degree from Stanford and a Masters in Education from Cambridge University. I am also a bit of a digital nomad these days! I teach writing, public speaking, web and graphic design, financial management and college application/essay bootcamps. I’ve taught across the spectrum, from Kindergarten to high school and college and worked with students from all over the world! I love teaching and strive to create an educational environment that is impactful and engaging and that fosters creativity and inquiry. My holistic approach means your child will grow into an intelligent and avid learner, developing essential leadership, problem-solving and creative-thinking skills for lifelong success.
