In this fun,engaging and interactive 4 week public speaking camp, your child will develop strong argumentative, persuasive and public speaking abilities. They will practice speaking impromptu i.e. how to think on their feet and also practice, writing and giving a well-thought out speech. The classes are a mix of seminar-style instruction, discussion, writing and public speaking Class 1: Learning how to research and construct an argument. Students pick topics for their public speaking rounds and start researching and developing an outline. Class 2: Impromptu speech round! Class 3: Students work independently, collaboratively and with the teacher on building and writing out their arguments. How to handle a Q&A Class 4: Public speaking round! Reflection. Sample topics: reducing poverty, global warming and climate change, money versus health, favorite books/characters.
Learning Goals
Students learn valuable research, critical thinking and expository writing skills that will serve them well through school, college and their careers. They also learn to think on their feet and speak eloquently on the spur of the moments. Our topics range from pertinent global issues like poverty and climate change to ordinary everyday topics, giving students the chance to practice public speaking on a range of topics
