In this class, we will learn graphic design using a really fun and intuitive tool called Canva. Each week we will learn and practice different types of graphic design. As we design, we will talk about complementary colors, building a color scheme, white space, complementary fonts and lots more! Students will develop excellent design thinking skills that will serve them well in school and college and with extracurriculars. As a bonus, they’ll also come away from this class with a great design portfolio! Class 1 and 2: Poster and flyer design Sample poster topics: anti-bullying, fight climate change, clean up your neighborhood, women’s rights, flyer/poster for a school club or event, flyer/poster for a sporting event Class 3: Newsletters and brochure Sample topics: family newsletter Class 4: Slide presentations Sample topics: anything informational or persuasive e.g. 10 types of sharks, All about Red Pandas Class 5: logos, invitations and cards Eg logo for restaurant or school, or club or afterschool activity, birthday party invitation, Christmas card Class 6: infographics and book covers Eg a short history of their state, the lifecycle of a butterfly

I am an award-winning teacher with an undergraduate degree from Stanford and a Masters in Education from Cambridge University. I am also a bit of a digital nomad these days! I teach writing, public speaking, web and graphic design, financial management and college application/essay bootcamps. I’ve taught across the spectrum, from Kindergarten to high school and college and worked with students from all over the world! I love teaching and strive to create an educational environment that is impactful and engaging and that fosters creativity and inquiry.
