Class Experience

Would you rather create a virtual escape room or get to learn about using Google Slides? In this class, you can do both.
In this flexible schedule class, you will be taught how to create a virtual Escape Room that you can challenge your friends with. You will learn:
The parts of an escape room
How to create an interactive Google Slide to use for the escape room- this will include inserting backgrounds, pictures, and links. We will also learn about different types of puzzles to include in our escape room.
How to create a Google Form to create the lock for the escape room- this will include making the questions mandatory and self-checking responses.
The learners in the class will select a theme and clues for their escape rooms.
This class will be taught as a demonstration. The learners will be encouraged to be creative in coming up with the theme they use for their escape room.
My teaching style is relaxed.
The learners will interact with me and with other learners throughout the course The learners will be encouraged to identify elements needed to be included in the escape room that they create.
There is no prior experience needed for this activity.

*** I do not cancel classes due to low enrollment.
***The student will need to be able to search images on the internet. They may also need to access websites based on the theme they choose for their escape room in order to gather information about their theme.
Each week, a video that introduces the skill for the week will be shared by Monday evening at 5:00 pm Eastern time. I will also share challenges based upon the skill of the week to complete for the week by Monday evening at 5:00 pm Eastern time. Responses to the challenges should be used in the student's Escape Room and the link to the student's Escape Room should be posted on the Outschool Class page or through a message sent to me. Students will be encouraged to share their Escape Rooms and any questions they have on the Outschool Class page or through a message sent to me. Students will be encouraged to post videos, links, questions, challenge responses, and/or comments on the Outschool Classroom page or through sending a message to me. Students should share a link to the Escape Room that they are creating on the Outschool page. During my 30 years as an educator, one of my responsibilities was to teach teachers new technology and how to utilize the technology in their lessons to make them more engaging. One of the things that I taught them how to do was to create Escape Rooms using Google Slides and Google Forms. I also created many Escape Rooms for the students to enjoy while in the School Media Center.
