US Grade 2 - 5
Would you rather play a game or learn about the parts of speech? In this class, you can do both. Each week, we will explore a different part of speech and have activities and games relating to the part of speech of the week. We will have activities like Simons Says, a scavenger hunt, and even an escape room activity that will help the students make connections to the part of speech in order to promote long-term learning as opposed to memorization. I will cover nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, and interjections. The class will be structured in the following format: Greetings Rules Mini-lesson Activity Closing I will teach using a brief explanation of the part of speech for the week and then have the students participate in activities to have them practice identifying the part of speech. I will use Canva slides to show what the part of speech is and what types of words make up that part of speech. However, Canva is not required for the learners. Then, the students will engage in an activity that has them use the information learned during the mini-lesson. My teaching style is informal. Students will be encouraged to ask questions and interact with each other throughout the lesson. They will be encouraged to share their thoughts and samples of the part of speech with the class during the mini-lesson as well as during the activities. There is no prior knowledge needed.
