Do you have what it takes to Escape Mr. Lemoncello's Library? In this class, you can find out. In this 5-week multi-day class, students will have the opportunity to read about Mr. Lemoncello and the many wonderful challenges he created in the library in Alexandriaville. Students will use higher-order thinking skills in order to solve challenges, expand their vocabulary, and make text-to-self connections. Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts about the book and make literature-to-life connections. The first week of class will be spent getting to know each other and making predictions about the book. Due to copyright laws, no part of the book will be read during class time. Each week, students will be required to read a portion of the book, complete some activities including vocabulary challenges as well as responding to open-ended questions related to the book, and responding to other learners' questions and comments. This will help promote interaction between the learners as well as with me. The students will need to be prepared for class each week. We will also do activities that are related to the events going on in our reading. For example, during our first class, we will do a scavenger hunt. The final activity will be an Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library Escape Room based on the previous activities and discussions from all of the previous lessons in the class. Week 1: Getting to know each other, book talk, scavenger hunt Week 2: Book Discussion, Extreme Challenge part 1 Week 3: Book Discussion, Extreme Challenge part 2 Week 4: Book Discussion, Logic Puzzle Week 5 Book Discussion, Escape Room **For the first week of class, the learners will not be required to have already begun reading the book. We will do introductions, a book talk, and a game related to what they will be reading. The purpose of this class is to promote a love of reading as well as increase vocabulary and comprehension skills. *** I do not cancel classes due to low enrollment.
