Class Experience

Anger, frustration, disagreements are a normal part of life. We all have felt one of these emotions at least once. But what do we do with these emotions? We understand them then resolve them. Students will learn what "Teamwork" is and give examples of this in school, home or sports. We will discuss how disagreements sometimes happen working with others, leaving us feeling angry and frustrated. It isn't always easy working on a team or with other people. We will discuss everyone has their own ideas and thoughts of how things should be done or how things should go.

This is where "Conflict"enters and takes the stage as we discuss conflicts and how it can affect more than one person. Students will learn strategies and techniques to resolve those conflicts such as how to negotiate, mediate, communicate, arbitrate, legislate, and litigate by understanding example scenarios of each. We will discuss how to resolve conflicts respectfully without anger. Students will learn 4 steps to staying calm during conflicts. 1. Just Stop, 2. Watch Your Words, 3. Listen Up, 4. Find a Solution. Understanding what others are saying, apologize if mean things are said, and brainstorm ideas or ask an adult for help. Students will be encouraged to share a conflict that they resolved. Students will help create a story that deals with conflict resolution in a fun way.

My teaching style is interactive, laid back but structured, and fun where conversation is encouraged. I feel students learn best in an environment that is open and comfortable, where they are able to express and be themselves. I do not discriminate on race, creed, culture, religion, gender, or abilities. I feel each student has unique gifts and talents. It is an honor to be able to teach this lesson and feel it is vital for students to understand this important coping skill at such a young age.

I am so excited to be able to teach this valuable lesson and look so forward to seeing your child in the classroom.
