For some people, writing comes as naturally as breathing. For others, that blank page is panic-inducing, but it doesn't have to be. Often, students who hate writing struggle with confidence and are overwhelmed by the process. In Commas and Confidence tutoring sessions, I meet students where they are and help them see past the blank page and into their own abilities. I believe that confidence in writing is the gateway to competence. The key to effective skill building is to find a student's strengths and interests, celebrate them, and then encourage them to expand their skill set to other areas of writing with fun and supportive exercises and ideas. We can work on brainstorming, creating step-by-step strategies for completing assignments, correct writing and grammar mechanics, and editing skills. I am happy to work with students of any skill level on any type of academic or creative writing assignments. Students or parents can submit instructions ahead of time if a student needs help with a particular assignment or we can work on building specific skills as needed. I will review work completed previously or during the tutoring session to identify and correct any common, ongoing errors. My promise to families is that students will be treated with the utmost respect and compassion. The long-term goal is for students to ultimately no longer need tutoring because they now have the tools and confidence to tackle any writing assignment that comes their way and to maybe even begin writing for fun!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature from American Public University System
Writing is important to me because it is the way we clearly communicate our ideas to others. It is a form of power that everyone should have. I have worked with preschoolers, elementary students, middle and high schoolers, and even adults to help them take back that power while working as a professional writer myself.
As a homeschooling mom with three daughters, I've also encountered and worked through nearly every possible writing excuse and frustration on the planet. Maybe a few from Jupiter too. Who knows. Nothing surprises me and I believe that every writing-related issue has a thoughtful and compassionate answer.
