Class Experience

Unleash your creativity and dive into the wild and wonderful world of felines with a crazy cat lady who also happens to be a writer. In this class, young writers can explore the charm, mystery and playfulness of cats through weekly writing lessons and exercises.

Each session will start with a few minutes for students to tell tales (or tails!) of their own cats or to share fun cat facts they might have learned. This will help them get into storytelling mode. Then, we'll leap into lessons that will help students learn to focus their writing step-by-step. Students can work on one continuous story throughout the class or write about something new every week as we work through the story mountain (beginning, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution). We'll also talk about settings, character development and dialogue, and talk about how to purr-fect stories.

Join this class and celebrate the magic of cats and let your imagination roam as freely as a playful kitten!

IMPORTANT: My classes are safe spaces for creative students. I start every session with a reminder that writing can only thrive when students can be vulnerable. That means any comments about another student's ideas or writing must be supportive. Mean-spirited, critical comments will not be tolerated. Please remind your students to be kind to others before class starts. Thank you!

I have five cats. One fell out of the sky. Literally. A hawk was involved. I've bottle-fed babies, held beloved old friends as they crossed the rainbow bridge and in between enjoyed a lot of playing and snuggling, often while writing. Cats are excellent writing partners. I also have a decade of professional writing experience and almost two decades of experience teaching if that's your thing. Probably you're just wondering about the cats.
