Welcome to Leaves of Learning Academy's Comprehensive Writing Class! ✏️ What Sets This Writing Class Apart From Other Writing Classes on Outschool? ✅Unique Writing Class: This class offers a distinctive approach compared to other writing classes. ✅Teacher Access: Learners can communicate privately with their licensed, expert writing teacher before or after class sessions for support. (You can meet our teachers below.) ✅Personalized Feedback: Students receive live, private, tailored feedback on their writing. ✅Conference-Style Interaction: The class emphasizes individualized support in a conference format. ✅Focus on Skill Improvement: This approach helps learners overcome writing challenges and develop specific skills. ✅Learners also have the option to submit their writing through Outschool to receive written feedback from the teacher if they prefer not to meet live for feedback. (See below for details regarding setting up a time to meet privately with your teacher.) There are 3 units of writing that will be covered in this class. We will write two narratives, three opinion pieces, and three informative/explanatory pieces. Learners will publish 8 pieces of writing. Lessons 1-4: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. 🎯Focus: Elements of Narrative Writing (beginning, middle, end; characters, setting, plot; problem/solution; dialogue) 📖Mini-Lesson: Choose specific, powerful adjectives and verbs; Use a hook in the introduction; writing about 'small moments' ✅Skills: Correctly use quotation marks and commas in dialogue 📝Publish: Two narrative pieces Lessons 5-8: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. 🎯Focus: Elements of Informative/Explanatory Writing (main idea with supporting relevant details; topic and concluding sentences) 📖Mini-Lesson: Choosing relevant supporting details/information; crafting a strong topic sentence and concluding sentence ✅Skills: Find and correct sentence fragments and run-ons; correct capitalization and punctuation; proper nouns; crafting complex sentences 📝Publish: Three informative/explanatory pieces Lessons 9-12: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information. 🎯Focus: Elements of Opinion Paragraphs (supporting an opinion with details; focus on one topic) 📖Mini-Lesson: Make a claim and support with details/information; crafting a strong topic sentence and concluding sentence; organizing details ✅Skills: Organize ideas, add opinions, using helping verbs and plural nouns 📝Publish: Three opinion pieces We are proud to offer your learner private, live, individualized feedback from their teacher on their writing! Here are the details: 👉Learners may meet with the teacher one time for each piece of writing. 👉The feedback session is limited to 10 minutes. 👉The parent or student needs to message the teacher to let her know when you would like to schedule the session. 👉The session can only take place 10 minutes before or 10 minutes after any scheduled class session. 👉After a date and time are agreed upon, the teacher and the learner will join the regular scheduled class session for that day/time 10 minutes early for their conference. A message will be posted in the Outschool classroom before the class takes place in the event a substitute will be teaching.
