This one-week camp, includes 5 sessions in which the learner will listen to the poem "Remember," by US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo.

Class experience

US Grade 2 - 5
- Learners will be able to read a section of the poem with feelings.
- Learners will be able to ask questions during discussions about the poem and its author.
- Learners will be able to respond to the poem by drawing and/or writing their own poem or journal entry.
I have a Masters of English from Middlebury college, where I have studied diverse perspectives represented in poetry.  I took a class in poetry by Joy Harjo and other American Poets. I live in Juneau where the illustrator, Michaela is from and she has studied about Tlingit art, language and culture.
Homework Offered
Learners may choose to listen to Joy Harjo's poetry, listen to poems on youtube, or create art work in response to the poetry outside of class.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Children will be assessed by their thoughtful questions during the discussion and also by their culminating project, responding to the poem.
Grades Offered
I will supply a copy of the poem, "Remember."
The source that is used in the class is the book Remember by Joy Harjo. Published by Random House Studio, 2023.
