Homework
1 hour per week. Students will receive a new "weekly challenge/creative-writing assignment" each session based upon the lesson.
Assessment
Informal assessments are conducted during the lesson through various games and mini-activities.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
This Course is an Ongoing Class so feel free to jump in and join us whenever! 

Each week of our Creative Writing Workshop students will learn both a new Creative-Writing style coupled
with a new literary device. This course is designed to be the balance between expanding on individual creativity and receiving actual academic instruction. 
Taught by a Published Author and award-winning creative-writer- you will also get a unique class perspective. 

Students will receive a new "weekly challenge/creative-writing assignment" each session based upon the lesson. Students will also receive individual constructive feedback about their writing projects.

JANUARY 2024: Large Writing Project- Screen/PlayWriting & Expanding on Dialogue

Week 1 Couplets & Slant Rhyme
Week 2 Personal Narrative & Imagery
Week 3 Rhymed Poetry & Analyzing Symbolism. 
Week 4 The Key to Journaling & Creating Mood in Writing. 

FEBRUARY 2024: Large Writing Project- Diving into Novels & Character Development

Week 1 Free Verse Poetry & Metaphors
Week 2 Blogging, Vlogging, & Onomatopoeias
Week 3 Storytelling vs Spoken Word Take the Mic
Week 4 Effective Marketing & Tone

MARCH 2024: Large Writing Project- Writing Short Fiction with Setting/Atmosphere

Week 1- Haiku Poetry & Simile Comparisons
Week 2- What is a Memoir & How to Use Foreshadowing
Week 3- Acrostic Poems & Bilingual Interscope
Week 4- Rhymed Poetry & Analyzing Symbolism

APRIL 2024: Large Writing Project- Historical/Scientific Fiction

Week of 1- Effective Speeches & The Power of Repetition
Week of 2- Sonnets & Measuring in Metered Feet
Week of 3- Songwriting & Worded Lyrical Beats
Week of 4- Fairytale Recipes & Intertextual Conversations

Classes will cycle back around, but with new prompts. Students are welcome to join for a week at a time, or the entire semester. Scheduling is flexible.

Instruction time is set up as a presentation of new information through games/activities, and brainstorming sessions. Content is fun and engaging!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to explore new creative writing concepts, styles, and genres. Students will also learn about new literary devices and the best ways to use them in their writing.

Other Details

Supply List
Learners will need access to internet/computer for Zoom meetings. And a way to write assignments (virtual document, actual notebook etc).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
