Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
This class is a 10-week, flex class targeted at helping young writers hone their skills by mastering the building blocks of writing: sentences and paragraphs.

We will cover the following topics through the class:
 - Sentence Development (including lessons on sentence structure, parts of speech, punctuation, etc.)

 - Paragraph Development (introduction, details, conclusions, literary devices, transition words, etc.)

 - Writing Genres such as narrative, persuasive, and critique writing

Class Structure:
- Each class will include a focus on sentences and paragraphs, except for the first week which will focus solely on sentences

Class Activities:
- The class activities will consist of a (I) video lesson, (II) classroom discussion posts, and (III) written assignments:

I. Video Lesson: Each week, a video will be posted detailing the sentence and paragraph topics for the week.

II. Classroom Discussion Questions: Learners will have the opportunity to answer 2 questions each week on the classroom page about the class material (for example, what is an adjective you like?)

III. Written assignments: Written assignments will have two parts: one focusing on the sentence lesson, and one focusing on the paragraph lesson. Written assignments will be submitted as attachments via learner or parent messages. Within one week, I will submit written feedback on the learner's writing.

Class Duration:
Each video lesson will be approximately 30 minutes. Time spent outside the video lesson on discussion questions and the written assignments varies for each learner.

Teaching Style:
- I like to understand what motivates learners and what I can do to be supportive of them. Learning writing is a process, and it can be tough! This flex class permits learners to take their own time in the week to do the classwork.

I look forward to meeting your learner!
