Class Experience

- Based on my one-time class, Nature Meditation for Elementary School Students, this weekly ongoing class will offer learners an opportunity to practice deep breathing and focusing on a scene in nature.

- Through the guided meditation story that we explore each week, learners will become more adept at reflecting on sensory details.

- This class is great for learners with any level of experience of meditation, as tips for meditation will be provided at the beginning of each class.

Here is a sampling of nature scenes we will focus on in the first four weeks of class:
Week of January 2nd, 2023:
Jungles of Asia

Week of January 9th, 2023:
Coast of New England

Week of January 16th, 2023:
Skies over the Amazon

Week of January 23rd, 2023:
Chincoteague Island

Class Structure and Learner Interaction: - We will start class off with a quick icebreaker question (for example, what is your favorite breakfast food?).

- Then, learners will be given some tips for participation in the guided meditation (like closing one's eyes to help one relax).

- If learners have other tips they wish to share, they can share them at this time as well.

- Learners are asked to stay on mute during the storytelling so that the whole class can stay focused on the story.

- At the end of the story, learners will be encouraged but not required to share any reflections or questions they have from the story.

- They will also be asked if there are any other ideas of nature scenes they would like to explore in future classes.

Helpful Class Experience Tips and Notes:

- As learners are making an effort towards weekly practice of meditation, it is totally fine if learners' thoughts wander a bit or they can't keep still the whole time. Even grownups experience these same things while meditating too!

- It is completely okay for learners to fall asleep during class. In fact, many families have said that my meditation classes help their learners at bedtime!

Ultimately, the goal for the class is that learners will participate in one style of meditation, guided meditation, and will develop their skills in deep breathing and visualizing stories.
