Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
SCHEDULE NOTE: I will not be scheduling any classes from August 12th - August 18th.

- In this class, the learner will be given the choice to write a narrative or persuasive prompt.

- The learner will then have 20 minutes to write their response to the prompt (ideally 1-2 paragraphs).

- Based on the learner's requests, I will offer as much help to the writer during the writing process as they wish (for example, if a learner requests I may help them to brainstorm ideas).

- After the learner has completed the writing assignment, the learner will share their response with me.

- I will give them verbal feedback on strengths in the writing and suggestions for improvement.

- Depending on how much time we have left, the learner may then begin working on any revisions.

- Further, the learner may send me an image of their writing after the tutoring session for me to make written comments on grammar, spelling, and content.

- If you wish to enroll your learner at a time that is not available, please submit a scheduling request.

The following are notes on Outschool policies. Thank you and I look forward to meeting your young writer!

Enrollment Note:
Missed Class/Refund Policy: According to Outschool policy, if a learner is not in class ten minutes past the class start time, the instructor may leave the class and is not required to refund the family: https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/16379-outschool-s-happiness-guarantee-and-refunds
For my personal teaching policy, in addition to the Outschool policy above, if parents inform me before the start of class that a class will be missed, or if the parent informs me afterwards about an emergency situation, I may provide a refund or reschedule the class at my discretion.

Siblings, friends, and other groups of learners in the set age range are welcome to join the class and use one device, but each learner must be individually enrolled per Outschool's policy on multiple learners: https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/2186663-enrolling-multiple-learners-in-the-same-class
In case you would like to enroll multiple learners such as siblings for one-on-one tutoring, please message me and we can establish a different class format for your family/group.

Additionally, if a learner who falls between the ages of 3-18 wishes to enroll in the class but does not fall between the recommended age range of 9-13 for example, if the learner is 8 or 14 years old) it is up to the discretion of the instructor to decide if the learner will be allowed to stay enrolled depending on the ages of the rest of the learners in the section and the abilities of that learner. It is also helpful, regardless of age, if your learner is familiar with certain Zoom functions on their own, such as how to mute and unmute and how to open and close the chat box.

While families are welcome to observe their learners taking the class, according to Outschool requests that parents supervising their children stay off-camera as much as possible. No adult may enroll to take the class themselves. In case you need to be on camera to support your child, please message me so I am aware of the situation before class. Please see the item under the Parents FAQ, “Can adults take your classes?” https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/17205-parent-faq

Outschool welcomes learners of all backgrounds, abilities, etc. Please see our Classroom Content Policy: https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/753895-class-content-policy

Copying ideas/descriptions for Outschool classes is in violation of Outschool policy.

A final note, just because the question has been asked by many parents before: it is totally okay with me if your child has their lunch/breakfast/snack during class! No permission is needed from me. What matters most is if my learners act in a way that is respectful to themselves, to me, and to our learning time together.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain practice in independent writing, discussing their written work, and as time permits working on revisions. This class will prepare learners for timed writing situations and also allow them to have an opportunity to have guided support while writing.
