Students will learn about different styles of writing and will practice extemporaneously writing in response to a given writing prompt.
I earned my BA in English from Washington University, and two Masters degrees in the Education field from Brown University and The George Washington University. I have taught language to learners in K-12 for over a decade in non-formal settings such as afterschool tutoring and weekend enrichment programs. In Hillsborough County, Florida, I was nominated at the SERVE Tutor of the year in 2012. I have also published poetry, magazine articles, and academic book chapters.
No homework will be assigned.
Any means for writing: either paper and pen/pencil, or desktop/laptop/tablet through which the student can write their response to the prompt. Students typically require 3 sheets of paper per class. Having lined paper is optional, but when students have been able to write on lined paper they have been less worried about running out of space.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will not be formally assessed; the purpose of this class will be for students to gain weekly, extemporaneous writing practice so that students may become more comfortable with writing and gain familiarity with different styles.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
