Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
In this ongoing course, beginner writers will learn through play! Students will team up with Spots the Cheetah in order to master strong sentences and complete paragraphs. Students will play learning games with Spots each week. Additionally, learners will write with their teacher and classmates every lesson.

Learners may bring their own stuffed animal to class. They will be able to use favorite toy in the learning games, which will add to the fun! Plus, sharing their stuffed animals will help them connect with classmates. Finally, it motivates students to write and gives them something to write about.

In this class, students will learn to organize their thoughts and ideas in writing. Students will also practice sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. We will write short journals each week on different topics. We do not learn about any one type of writing. Instead, we master basic writing skills such as capitalization, punctuation, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, clarity, and of course, paragraphs.

My goal is to ensure learners develop skills that go above and beyond their current grade level. I ensure this by taking a personal approach, building lessons week-by-week so they are tailored to the unique needs of the class.

Students are expected to handwrite their assignments. This gives them much needed practice to improve their handwriting skills. The teacher will provide paper with lines that can be printed out for students to write on. Students will also receive activities and worksheets to improve their handwriting.

The structure of the class will be similar each week. First, we will play a writing game with Spots the Cheetah to learn new writing skills and engage the students in learning through fun. Then, we will write together in class. Sometimes students will write independently with guidance from the teacher, and sometimes we will write as a class.

Every class will end with a writing task. The goal of the weekly writing task is to give learners consistent writing practice and get them familiar with writing standards. There will be time to write during class, but learners will have to finish their assignments outside of class.

Classes will also include quizzes, games, worksheets, discussion, peer review and feedback from the teacher on their work. There will also be opportunities to read out loud. Each class will use a variety of teaching methods to engage every type of learner.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the class level.
