This Intermediate Ballet Course is aimed at children aged 8 - 11 years. It is suitable for children who have taken previous Ballet courses with me or those with approximately 2-3 years of previous ballet experience. If your child is new to my classes please contact me to ask any questions regarding standard/ballet experience required for this course. I look forward to teaching your learner! This Course will practice Grade 2-3 Ballet exercises from the NCDTA Syllabus. The NCDTA Exam Board is one of the main Professional Dance Teachers Associations, established in the U.K. in 1925. It is a core member of the 'British Dance Council', 'Theatre Dance Council International' and 'Sports & Recreation Alliance' with thousands of children studying the NCDTA technique and taking exams each year. Dance is an art-form which requires practice to master techniques. Each meeting will both build-on and practice techniques learned in each class. The core syllabus will be the NCDTA Grades 2-3 but I will supplement this with extra material as I see necessary. This course may be repeated. Usually children study Grade 2-3 level for approximately 1-2 years. Week 1:- Introduction Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (E.g. Plies & Tendus) Centre Technique Exercises (E.g. Port de Bras, Adage, Pas de Chat) Dance - learn first section Cool Down/Reverence Week 2:- Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (As Week 1 and adding more exercises e.g. Grand Battement) Centre Technique Exercises (As Week 1 and adding more exercise e.g. Echappe Saute & Ferme) Dance - learn second section Cool Down/Reverence Week 3:- Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (As Week 2 and adding more exercises e.g. Assemble Soutenu) Centre Technique Exercises (As Week 2 and adding more exercises e.g. Glissade) Dance - learn third section Cool Down/Reverence Week 4:- Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (As Week 3 and adding more exercises e.g. Prep Attitude) Centre Technique Exercises (As Week 1 and adding more exercise e.g. Enchainments) Dance - learn fourth section Cool Down/Reverence Weeks 5 - 8 These weeks will continue to work on the Grades 2 - 3 Ballet Syllabus. The pace will reflect the learners in the class. Teaching Style:- I have a positive approach to teaching. I like to praise and encourage. This course will be active with me explaining and demonstrating as well as keeping an eye on all students in the class to see if they require help or are struggling. When I'm speaking or have music playing I may keep the students muted so they are able to hear me/the music clearly but I will be checking on them in between exercises for questions. I may also ask them to show me some of the steps/exercises so that I can see how much information they are retaining and how they are managing with the technique of the steps. The pace of the course will reflect the students in the class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn a selection of Grade 2 - 3 Exercises from the NCDTA Ballet Syllabus as well as supplementary exercises where necessary. They will also learn a Ballet Dance.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Please ensure children have enough space to move around and remove anything they may bump into or knock down (e.g. your expensive vase!)
Class Attire:- Please wear appropriate free-moving clothes e.g. tee-shirt with leggings, leotard and wear either ballet shoes or bare-feet (not socks) so they do not slip during the class.
Fitness:- Your child should be in a fit and healthy state. Please check with your doctor if you have any concerns.
Barre Work: There is barre work in the Grade 2-3 Ballet syllabus. Your child does not need a barre for this. They can use an 'imaginary' barre or a chair.
Technical Requirements:- Please check that your Zoom App is updated as this can cause issues with the sound quality in class. You can find more information here:- https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/579892-technical-requirements-and-browser-support
